I’ve got several friends that game 100% in Linux, and play E:D with flight sticks and shit. Not into the game so I don’t know anything about the specifics, but seems perfectly doable…
This is a good take… You can tell when newer (usually indie) games were built on OS-agnostic engines; you can’t really tell the difference between the Linux runtime and proton.
Otherwise, proton is often better.
Yup. Usually not as well optimized either, if you do get it to work.
I use Bazzite, which is literally designed for gaming (pretty much steamOS), and more often than not, the Windows version with proton works better than the native Linux runtime.
It’s not the OS, it’s the game.

Because I have a job and responsibilities lol
I’m worried that, if I watch this, it will push me to lose another few months of my life to Dwarf Fortress.
For anyone unfamiliar with Linux gaming, at this point, whether or not a game has a native Linux runtime is kind of irrelevant.
In fact, it has been my experience, that Windows versions of many games run better with Proton than their Linux counterparts. Probably because more work goes into the Windows versions to optimize.
Either way, still good to know who’s actually trying out there.
What others said… I think I’ve even run the installer as a non-steam app through Steam using proton and that worked as well. Unless I’m misremembering.
Been playing this one, very fun. First rogue like I’ve played in a while that has given me the “just one more run” feeling.
